The piping of an industrial installation is one of the most electrically sensitive points of the installation. Indeed, if they are not put at zero electrical potential, the piping paths can represent a major material and human risk.

In the event of a lightning strike or fault passing through the structure, arcing could occur between the pipes or in the pipe fittings which could cause significant property damage. There is also a risk of electrocution for the personnel present.

This is why it is imperative that each section of piping, as well as the various pipes, be connected equipotentially in order to be brought to a potential of 0 and thus prevent any risk.
